Description
GWE ZSM riser pipes transport pressurized groundwater and must be pressure-tight and resistant to corrosion to meet installation conditions and pump specifications. GWE has a long history of manufacturing and delivering customized riser pipes to meet customer needs. The range of riser pipes includes various materials, with stainless steel being the most common choice. Additionally, GWE offers a variety of connection technologies, including standard flange connections and the preferred ZSM push-in socket systems, which ensure that the best solution can be provided for any scenario.
ZSM Riser Selection
When selecting the appropriate riser sizes and materials for ZSM risers, it’s crucial to consider the pump set depth connection sizes, total system head, water quality and borehole dimensions. Having detailed information from the beginning ensures proper operations and longevity of the borehole.
Why ZSM Fittings
The ZSM has a smaller diameter than flanged systems, reducing installation time as no bolts and gaskets are required. It is quick to assemble and disassemble, and the double ‘O’ ring system ensures excellent sealing between the riser strings. ZSM negates the potential for threaded joints to bind.
Stainless Steel Material
Using stainless steel can extend the riser’s lifespan, resulting in lower maintenance costs and less downtime. Stainless steel is increasingly used to meet strict hygiene standards in potable water applications.
The GWE ZSM riser pipes are fabricated from 304L or 316L stainless steel, which boasts a low carbon content that ensures superior corrosion resistance. Depending on the specific operational conditions, alternative grades of stainless steel may be evaluated for suitability.
Pickling and Passivation
Manufacturing and production processes can damage and deposit impurities on the outer surface of the risers. Pickling prepares the surface of the stainless steel for optimum corrosion resistance.
After the welding and machining processes, stainless steel components may retain free iron, which poses a risk of contaminating the risers. Passivation removes these contaminants and establishes the necessary passive layer, ensuring good corrosion resistance of the stainless steel.
